Qualitative improvement of cashew apples and nuts by spraying with water and zinc sulphate solution, in the coastal area of West Bengal

Cashew trees (13- to 14-years-old) were untreated or sprayed with water or a 1, 3 or 5% solution of ZnSO4 at 5-7 days after fruit set. Treatment with ZnSO4 increased the total sugars and ascorbic acid contents and acidity of the cashew apples at all stages of development. It had little effect on the lipid content of the kernel, but kernel protein content was increased by the 5% treatment.
