Quality of irrigation water in some districts of the Marche region

Chemical analyses of irrigation water were made in two Italian districts where the water is mainly used to irrigate the following crops: peas, green beans, peppers, tomatoes, cauliflower, spinach, summer squash, cabbage, lettuce. In various situations the water salinity was found to be above the limit at which a reduction in yield potential occurs. Moreover, in some districts, sodium and chloride ion concn were found to be above the tolerance limit.
