On the basis of phenotypic, genotypic and chemotaxonomic data, X. oryzae (ex Ishiyama 1922) sp. nov. nom. rev. is proposed; this species comprises X. oryzae pv. oryzae (Ishiyama 1922) comb. nov. and X. oryzae pv. oryzicola (Fang, Ren, Chen, Chu, Faan, and Wu 1957) comb. nov., the causal agents of bacterial blight and bacterial leaf streak of rice, respectively.
