In field trials in the rabi seasons of 1983-85 in sandy loam soil at Anand, Gujarat, groundnuts GAUG-1 and TG17 sown on 1 Oct., 15 Oct., 1 Nov. or 15 Nov. gave average pod yields of 1.56, 1.51, 1.37 and 1.24 t/ha. Sowing in rows 30, 45 or 60 cm apart had no effect on average pod yields. There was a significant interaction between sowing date and row spacing; sowing on 1 Oct. and in rows 45 cm apart gave the highest average yield of 1.57 t.
