Response of wheat grown on manganese-deficient soil to methods and rates of manganese sulphate application

In a field trial with wheat grown on a Mn-deficient soil, applying 25, 50 or 75 kg Mn/ha by 2 methods (broadcasting and placement in bands) gave grain yields of 4.50-4.57, 4.72-5.00 and 4.85-5.12 t/ha, resp., compared with 2.73 t without Mn. Applying 3 foliar sprays at 1-week intervals, starting before or after the 1st irrigation, of 0.5 or 1.0 % manganese sulphate gave yields of 4.30-4.62 and 4.52-4.92 t, resp.
