Sequence variability among ovine trophoblast interferon cDNA

cDNA representing 6 mRNAs for sheep trophoblast interferon were cloned from a day 15-16 sheep conceptus library. Two distinct types of cDNA, a-type and b-type, were distinguished, which supports previous evidence suggesting that sheep trophoblast interferons belong to a multigene family. The a-type cDNA contained a potential N-glycosylation site at codon 101, similar to the one found in bovine trophoblast interferon; however, sheep trophoblast interferon is not known to be glycosylated.
