Sequential application of methomyl on green peach aphid control on tobacco and its economic assessment

Methomyl was applied sequentially on tobacco every 10, 20, 30 and 40 days regularly after tranplanting for control of natural infestation of the green peach aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulzer), on the other treatment, methomyl was applied every 10, 20, 25 and 30 days after artificial inoculation of one apterous adult of green peach aphid per tobacco plant at 30 days after transplanting. Methomyl, 90% W. P. 2000 times, were significantly effective on control of the aphid, but the effective in preventing the incidence of aphid-borne virus diseases of tobacco vein-banding mosaic virus and cucumber mosaic virus that were increased with time in all treatments. The performance of sequential application of methomy at 30 days after transplanting gave the best return in the chemical control cost/benefit ratio.
