Sequential growth stage adjustment to acid soil stress in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor)

The similar shoot growth responses to increased shown by 6 varieties differing in their reactions to acid soil stress was explained in terms of gibberellic acid (GA) sequestering and failure of GA translocation. Inhibition of root growth due to increased was attributed to a failure of IAA translocation. Mn2+ inhibited the biosynthesis of the GA precursor ent-kaurene and possibly increased IAA oxidation. Amylase and isocitrate lyase activities were sensitive to H+, Ca2+ and Mn2+.
