Sero-epidemiological study of human hydatid disease in Libya using finger prick blood samples

A total of 384 blood samples were collected on filter paper by finger-prick from inhabitants of 4 rural localities in West Benghazi, Libya. The samples were tested by micro-indirect haemagglutination using hydatid fluid (from the livers of local sheep) as antigen. Only in 2 localities (Qaminis and Suluq) were high titres found; only 8 (2%) individuals had titres >=1:64.
