Sero-prevalence of Brucella abortus agglutinins in abattoir workers and animals from three Nigerian cities

Sero-prevalence of Brucella abortus agglutinins in abattoir workers and animals from three Nigerian cities

Bulletin of Animal Health and Production in Africa 38(2): 203-204

A total of 1097 serum samples were tested, 108 (9.8%) were positive in rose bengal plate test (RBPT), while only 6 (0.55%) were positive in serum agglutination test (SAT). Only one sample, a horse (0.09%) was a reactor. None of the 57 abattoir workers had either RBPT or SAT agglutinins. Goats, chickens and cattle had high RBPT agglutinins of 19.5%, 17.0% and 15% respectively out of a total of 200, 100 and 200 samples tested for each of the animal species.
