Seroepidemiological characteristics of opisthorchiasis foci with different levels of endemicity

Seroepidemiological characteristics of opisthorchiasis foci with different levels of endemicity

Meditsinskaya Parazitologiya i Parazitarnye Bolezni ( 3): 35-39

Inhabitants of 10 villages in different foci of opisthorchiasis in the USSR, including 6 in the basin of the River Ob, Siberia, and 4 in the Ukraine, were investigated. 3474 subjects were tested by a solid-phase immunoenzyme technique and 2344 by coprological tests. In the 2 highly endemic Ob basin villages, 74.6 to 83.4% of inhabitants had Opisthorchis ova in faeces and 60.2 and 69.6% respectively were seropositive. In general, the endemicity was accurately reflected by immunodiagnosis.
