Seroepidemiological study of foci of hydatidosis in the south- east of Kazakhstan

A total of 3013 inhabitants of 8 districts of the Alma-Ata region, Kazakh SSR, were tested for hydatidosis by the IHAT. The overall positivity rate was 3.1%, with a significant difference between the east (5.4%) and the west (1.1%) of the region. Shepherds had a higher prevalence (6.1%) than other groups involved professionally with animals. There was no difference between the prevalence rates detected in children and adults.
