Seroepidemiological study of human leptospirosis on Reunion

Seroepidemiological study of human leptospirosis on Reunion

Bulletin Epidemiologique Hebdomadaire ( 11): 47-48

This purely serological study was carried out during the months of June and November 1987 in order to evaluate the prevalence of human leptospirosis on the French island of La Reunion in the Indian Ocean. A total of 3338 persons aged >15 years were randomly selected within 22 of the 24 townships, excluding the essentially urban city of Saint-Denis. Specimens of their sera were tested locally by ELISA for IgM antibodies indicating current or recent infections.
