A seroepidemiological survey for Q fever was conducted among 388 subjects residing in rural area in the North of the Charente, France. These 226 males and 162 females (mean age +or- SD = 40.6 +or- 16.3 years) were distributed in 3 groups. Group I (55 subjects) included 18 families of stock-breeders, owners of animals with a Q fever positive serology, group II: 33 individuals working on animal products (abattoirs, manufacturers of woollens and animal guts) and group III: 300 control subjects.
