Serologic properties of Azospirillum Strains

Immune sera against eight strains of the species Azospirillum brasilense and Azospirillum lipoferum were prepared. Immunodiffusion assays of the antisera using 28 strains of Azospirillum and 14 species of different genera of soil bacteria demonstrated strict antigenic specificity of Azospirillum at the genus level, and clear specificity at the species level. A. brasilense was serologically the more heterogeneous species.
