Kidney cultures were negative for all of 435 Arvicanthus niloticus, 23 Cricetomys gambianus and 44 Mus musculus, but of 105 serum samples from A. niloticus 47 had agglutination titres of 1:100 or higher to one or more of 9 serovars, particularly bratislava.
