Serological investigation of the population of Baku for Toxocara infection

In 1985-88, the population of 4 communities of Baku, Armenian SSR, USSR, and its suburbs were investigated for the presence of anti-Toxocara antibodies by the IHAT. The mean seropositivity rate for the Apsheron Peninsula was 5.9%, ranging from 2.8% in central Baku to 12.5% in the rural community of Khodzha-Gasan. Toxocara eggs were found in 102 (21.8%) of 467 dogs and 11 (9.5%) of 116 cats. The seropositivity rate was higher in children than in adults and higher in women than in men.
