Serological prevalence of toxoplasmosis in stray dogs

Toxoplasma gondii antibodies were detected by the indirect immunofluorescent antibody (IFA) test in 26.9% of 145 stray dogs examined in the Kuala Lumpur/Petaling Jaya area [Malaysia]. A titre of 1/64 was considered sero-positive. The incidence of positive sera from male and female dogs were 30.9 and 21.9% respectively. The highest frequency of infection, occurred in dogs older than 5 years of age and the lowest was in dogs less than 2 years old.
