Serological response to Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae in experimentally infected swine: measurement of specific IgG and IgM antibodies

Twenty four pigs from an A. pleuropneumoniae-free herd were infected by aerosol with A. pleuropneumoniae serotype 9 strain CVJ 13261. Using serotype 9 capsular polysaccharide antigen, the mean IgG antibody activity (0.38, 6.8, 53.2, 104.9 enzyme immunoassay units on days 0, 7, 14 and 21 respectively) and mean IgM antibody activity (3.5, 39.3, 78.7, 89.8 EIA units on days 0, 7, 14 and 21 respectively) both increased, but no correlation was determined between the antibody isotypes.
