In January 1989, 2815 serum samples were collected in all 7 Departments of Niger. Positive reactor rates were 1.4% for brucellosis, 3.9% for the haemorrhagic septicaemia serotype E of Pasteurella multocida, 15.4% for Coxiella, 3.7% for Mycoplasma mycoides, and 0.52% for Rift Valley fever virus antibodies. All the cattle positive for Rift Valley fever were in the same herd.
