Serological survey of Clostridium perfringens type A infection in cattle using an indirect haemagglutination test

Serological survey of Clostridium perfringens type A infection in cattle using an indirect haemagglutination test

Journal of Veterinary Medicine, Japan 43(9): 593-597

The antigen used in the indirect HI test was prepared from glutaraldehyde fixed sheep erythrocytes treated with tannic acid and sensitized with a sonicated extract of a Clostridium perfringens strain isolated from a bovine case of necrotic enteritis. In tests on 452 dairy cattle, 215 Japanese black cattle and 303 fattening cattle in Niigata prefecture in 1988-1989, 449 (97%), 199 (84%), and 272 (69%) were positive.
