Serological survey of HI antibodies against porcine and human type A influenza viruses among domestic and wild pigs in East Germany

Serological survey of HI antibodies against porcine and human type A influenza viruses among domestic and wild pigs in East Germany

Monatshefte fur Veterinarmedizin 46(5): 171-174

Serum samples obtained from 526 domestic and 161 wild pigs in 10 regions of East Germany during 1987 and 1988 were tested for antibodies to influenzavirus of human origin (A/swine/ Potsdam/35/82, H3N2) or porcine origin (A/swine Potsdam/1/81, H1N1). Antibodies to both viruses were present in 42 of the 47 pig herds. Among fattening pigs, 57% were positive to the former and 42% to the latter virus, compared with 62% and 26% of breeding pigs.
