Of 60 army dogs in Bizerte tested by the indirect immunofluorescence test in 1989, 43(72%) were positive for Ehrlichia canis antibodies and 38 (63%) for Rickettsia conorii antibodies. Of 71 dog handlers 14 (20%) were positive for R. conori.
