Serotype and characterization of Rickettsia tsutsugamushi isolated from patients in Kangwon-do Korea (1987-1988)

Attempts were made to isolate R. tsutsugamushi from patients suspected on clinical grounds of scrub typhus, who had been admitted to Choonchun Sacred Heart Hospital, Kangwon-do, South Korea, from September to December 1987-88. Fourteen strains were isolated from mouse inoculation and L cell culture. Each isolated strain was identified as R. tsutsugamushi from the results of immunological tests and morphological observations.
