Sertraline, a serotonin-uptake inhibitor, reduces food intake and body weight in lean rats and genetically obese mice

Sertraline, a serotonin-uptake inhibitor, reduces food intake and body weight in lean rats and genetically obese mice

American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 55(1 Suppl): 185s-189s

Sertraline was found to inhibit weight gain and decrease food intake without affecting locomotion in male CD rats and genetically obese (ob/ob) mice. Doses of 10, 17.8 and 32 mg/kg, administered intraperitoneally, significantly reduced the time rats spent in contact with their feeders and body weight in a dose-related manner. Over 5 days vehicle-treated rats gained 37+or-3 g (mean+or-s.e.m.) whereas rats treated with sertraline 32 mg/kg lost 34+or-4 g.
