Serum colony-stimulating factors induction in monkeys infected with Plasmodium cynomolgi

Physiological and pathological effects of cytokines: 339-342

The role of colony-stimulating factors was investigated using trophozoite-induced P. cynomolgi B infection in rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta). Infected monkeys showed a significant increase in serum colony-stimulating factor levels as determined by increased colony-stimulating activity (CSA) in vitro, as well as, in the pool size of circulating leukocytes; both returned to normal with the decrease in parasitaemia.
