Between 16 and 60 days of age, 24 ewe and wether lambs were treated on alternate days with sheep somatotropin (0.05 or 10 mg/kg body weight), or were not treated (controls). The lambs were weaned on day 60, and fed ad. lib. on pelleted lucerne (17% crude protein) and pelleted cracked maize for 84 days, and then slaughtered. Preweaning body weight gain was similar (P>0.30) between sexes, and between treated and control animals.
