Serum total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol levels as associated with copper and zinc intake in physically active and sedentary elderly men and women

Serum total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol levels as associated with copper and zinc intake in physically active and sedentary elderly men and women

Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology 258: 171-181

During 12 months 3-day diet records and fasting blood samples were collected from 63 men and women of mean age 74 years (range 60 to 85 years). Only 27% were physically active although health was generally good. Physical activity was associated with higher copper and zinc intakes, lower serum total cholesterol and higher serum Cu values. Higher Cu intakes were associated with lower serum total cholesterol. Higher serum copper values were associated with lower serum total cholesterol.
