Leisure Information Quarterly1991; 16(3): 1-4

The article stresses the important role marketing has to play in the leisure and recreation service industries. Understanding leisure and how to apply marketing principles in this area is important for a number of factors including increasing competition, labour shortages, greater demands for quality and changing consumer tastes. Leisure is different from other economic sectors and a product market orientation is inadequate.
