Sesquiterpenoids of Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer

Proceedings of the 11th international congress of essential oils, fragrances and flavours New Delhi, India, 12-16 November, 1989 Vol 5: 11-18

The isolation from P. ginseng of 3 novel sesquiterpenoids named panasinsanol A, panasinsanol B and ginsenol and determination of their structures are reported. Data obtained by comparative GC and GC-MS analyses of the neutral volatile oils of P. ginseng, P. japonicus, P. quinquefolius and P. notoginseng are also reported. Preparation of the ethereal extract and neutral fraction of P. ginseng (dried rootlets) is outlined and results of GC analysis of the neutral fraction are given.
