Socio-economic parameters in designing small irrigation schemes for small scale farmers. Nyanyadzi case study. Report III: managing water and group activities; implications for scheme design and organisation

Socio-economic parameters in designing small irrigation schemes for small scale farmers. Nyanyadzi case study. Report III: managing water and group activities; implications for scheme design and organisation

Report Hydraulics Research Limited ( OD 116): 57pp.

This report outlines current operational and maintenance practices for irrigation at Nyanyadzi Irrigation Scheme, Zimbabwe. It then looks at farmers' perceptions of the water supply received, and their knowledge of the relationship between their irrigation techniques, the quantity of water applied, and crop water needs. The farmers' responses indicated great variations of supply within each block, and that water use practices could be constrained by inadequate flows in the field channels.
