Specific effects of food on mice and rats. 2. Biochemical characteristics

Male mice (25 g) and rats (230 g) were subjected to restricted feeding for 2.5 h in the morning or afternoon, or were freely fed for 4 weeks. Blood samples were taken 1-24 h after feeds to study carbohydrate and lipid metabolism and ion balance. There was a pronounced relation between biochemical values and feeding patterns, except for potassium ion concentrations which did not deviate from the inherent circadian rhythm.
