In trials in 1988-89 with green gram hybrid sorghum, groundnuts, sunflowers, soyabeans, red gram and 2 cotton cultivars grown under dryland conditions on vertic Ustochrepts in a watershed area, productivity rating index (the ratio between actual and standard yield of a crop expressed in percentage) was highest in V. radiata (176.7) followed by cotton AKA-8401 (122.1) and C. cajan (112.1). V. radiata showed the highest water use efficiency and also gave the highest net returns.
