The Canadian sheep industry

Market Commentary (March): 73-83
The Canadian sheep industry
The paper highlights aspects of the Canadian sheep and lamb industry, covering size of industry, production, seasonality, trade, consumption and prices. The sheepmeat industry is significantly smaller than the other red meat sectors. Sheepmeat (lamb and mutton) production decreased from levels of 10 000 t - 14 000 t in the mid 1960s to levels of 5000 t - 9000 t in the 1970s and 1980s. Production has been characterized by a typical livestock cycle.
