The Lacho and Vasca Carranzana breeds. 3. Factors affecting variations in fertility

The Lacho and Vasca Carranzana breeds. 3. Factors affecting variations in fertility

ITEA, Informacion Tecnica Economica Agraria 86A(2): 93-112

Data obtained in 1983-87 on blackfaced Lacha ewes in 8 flocks (43-224 ewes per flock) in northern Spain were analysed. Age at first lambing was 600-700 days, and was significantly affected by year and season of birth, but not by type of birth (single or twin). The annual lambing rate was 87-94% for ewes aged >2 yr and 2-6% lower for younger ewes, and was significantly affected by age of ewe (highest for ewes aged 3-8 yr).
