Reasons for the decline and death of Pinus elliottii var. densa trees in Florida, USA, are discussed. Chlorotic or yellowing needles indicate that the trees are stressed and/or weakened which opens them to attack by diseases and insects which subsequently kill them. It is suggested that population growth in Florida has changed the environment into a harsh urban environment which stresses and weakens the trees.
