The development of clay minerals as a function of soil genesis

The development of clay minerals as a function of soil genesis

Mitteilungen der Deutschen Bodenkundlichen Gesellschaft 62: 153-156

The formation, transformation and destruction of clay minerals in soils is discussed. Clay formation in soils of temperate climatic zones is attributed largely to the weathering of micas in the silt and sand fractions. The course of clay mineral transformation and destruction is dependent on the base saturation of the soils.
