The effect of different levels of single cell protein in broiler rations and bird densities on body weight and feed conversion ratio

Diets containing 0, 5, 10 or 15% single cell protein (SCP) were given to 864, 1-day-old chickens reared on the floor for 6 weeks. Chickens were housed at 10, 12 and 14 birds/msuperscript 2. Body weight improved slightly with the inclusion of SCP in rations irrespective of stocking density but decreased (P<0.05) as stocking density increased irrespective of SCP level. Best finishing weights were attained with 5 and 10% SCP with densities of 12 and 10 birds/msuperscript 2, respectively.
