The effect of irrigation management during grain filling on ripening, quality and yield of rice

In pot trials in 1988-89, rice was grown with various irrigation treatments in the period following ear emergence. With no water supplied during periods of 5 or 10 d during up to 30 d after ear emergence, the yield of hulled grain was highest with no water supplied between 20 and 25 d after ear emergence and lowest with no water supplied between 10 and 20 d after ear emergence. In plot trials at 2 sites in 1989, excess water decreased yields and ripening percentage.
