The effect of melengestrol acetate (MGA), oestradiol benzoate (OB) and human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) on the ovarian function in the suckling dairy cows during early postpartum

Indian Veterinary Medical Journal 12(1): 15-19

The effect of melengestrol acetate (MGA), oestradiol benzoate (OB) and human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) on the ovarian function in the suckling dairy cows during early postpartum

From 5 wk after calving, 21 lactating Hariana cows were treated with 0.5 mg MGA per day for 14 days and given a 400- micro g injection of oestradiol benzoate 48 h after the last day of MGA feeding, with or without an injection of 1500 IU HCG at the time of ovulation. 10 similar Hariana cows were untreated (controls). Oestrous was induced in 11 of 11 and 8 of 10 cows treated with and without HCG resp.
