The effects of fish oil on hepatic insulin receptors in streptozotocin diabetic rats and gold-thioglucose induced obese mice

, : The effects of fish oil on hepatic insulin receptors in streptozotocin diabetic rats and gold-thioglucose induced obese mice. Hormone and Metabolic Research 23(9): 446-448

Diabetes was induced in 32 adult female Wistar rats by injection of streptozotocin 65 mg/kg body weight. 32 untreated Wistar females served as controls. All rats were fed a stock diet, plus a fish oil supplement (0.3 mg/kg) or an isoenergetic maize oil supplement. Insulin binding to liver microsomal membranes was higher (P<0.001) in diabetic rats fed maize oil, but not in rats fed fish oil, than in unsupplemented controls.
