The effects of gibberellic acid and time of nitrogen application on the canopy structure and yield of winter barley
The effects of GA3 application to winter barley were studied in a series of field trials in the UK in 1986-88. In most trials, GA3 effects were studied in conjunction with application date of the main N top-dressing in Mar. or Apr. GA3 stimulated apical development, inhibited tillering and often reduced seed yields. In 2 trials on contrasting cultivars in a dry season, GA3 applied at Zadoks growth stage 30 increased yield in both cultivars by 10-30%.
