The effects of late luteal phase dysphoric disorder on carbohydrate and sucrose consumption during the premenstrual phase

, : The effects of late luteal phase dysphoric disorder on carbohydrate and sucrose consumption during the premenstrual phase. Dissertation Abstracts International B, Sciences and Engineering 52(5): 2777

Groups of 15 patients, who did (PMS group) and did not (Controls) meet criteria for the disorder, recorded data on mood, food and menstrual symptoms for 60 days. In both groups, the premenstrual phase was associated with significantly higher caloric intake (p < 0.001), sucrose intake (p < 0.006), anxiety (p < 0.001) and depression (p < 0.001); caloric intake showed noticeable increase on day 3 of the phase, and depression on days 3-6 (progressive increase).
