The effects of low doses of gamma irradiation on the ultrastructure of Nosema apis in vitro

, : The effects of low doses of gamma irradiation on the ultrastructure of Nosema apis in vitro. Journal of Apicultural Research, 293: 165-171

Midguts of honeybees (Apis mellifera) that were infected by Nosema apis were placed (in tissue culture medium) in sterilized glass vials. The sealed vials were exposed to 500 Gy gamma irradiation and the midgut tissues were prepared for electron microscopy 24 and 48 h later. After irradiation dramatic ultrastructural changes took place in the various developmental stages of N. apis.
