The effects of protection by shelterbelts on an outdoor irrigated tomato crop

Tomato Riogrande was planted in the field on 21 Mar. at distances from the shelterbelt (cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) and acacia of 1, 2, 4, 7 or 10 times (1H-10H treatments) the height of the shelterbelt, or in unprotected plots. Yields were improved in protected plots, the 4H treatments giving the highest total and early yields (2.74 and 2.26 kg/plant, respectively, compared with 1.87 and 1.32 kg/plant for the unprotected controls).
