The effects of rare earth elements on growth and mineral uptake in maize seedlings
Seeds of maize hybrid Zao 49 X Dohuang 8 were soaked in solutions with 0, 2 or 5, 10, 40 or 100 p.p.m. of rare earth oxide containing 80% La and Ce for 24 h and seedlings were grown in Hoagland solution with aeration under additional illumination. Plant height, root length, leaf area/plant, FW and DW of shoots and roots, and contents of La, Ce, Ca, Zn, Cu, Mn and Mo in shoots and roots were measured 2 weeks after transplanting.
