The effects of recombinant methionyl bovine somatotropin administration (rBST) on luteinizing hormone (LH) in dairy cattle
16 lactating cycling Holstein cows were used to determine the effects of recombinant somatotropin (GH) administration on basal and acute LH concn. Cows received a 3-injection scheme of PGF2 alpha for oestrus synchronization beginning on day 40-50 post partum (pp). Control cows received a placebo while treated cows received 25 mg GH (Monsanto Agricultural Co.) daily, beginning with the second PGF2 alpha injection 54-59 days pp. Treatment duration was 24 days.
