The effects of short and long days on growth of spinach

Agriculture and Horticulture 65(3): 403-408
The effects of short and long days on growth of spinach
In trials during 1987-88, spinach was grown in natural daylengths or in long days of 13-16 h. A daylength of 16 h increased leaf number from 8.9 to 16.9 and increased plant weight from 7.2 to 18.5 g. Long days also increased leaf area, leaf dimensions and leaf DM/unit area but decreased the percentage DM. Long days increased RGR and leaf area ratio but only increased NAR during early growth. Application of 10 p.p.m.
