The effects of atrazine, monocrotophos and endosulfan on primary production in Saroornagar Tank, Hyderabad, India, were studied. Gross and net production were found to decrease gradually in treated water samples when compared to controls, and the respiratory rate of treated samples increased considerably. Gross and net production decreased gradually with increasing concentration of biocide, whereas oxygen consumption increased gradually. Disappearance of colour of samples was seen with monocrotophos.
