The effects of various forms of nitrogen fertilizers and application methods on sugarcane yields and nitrogen uptake

In lysimeter trials with 2 soils, sugarcane ROC 1 was given 300 kg N, 100 kg P2O5 and 150 kg K2O with the N applied in 3 equal dressings on the soil surface or at a depth of 10 cm and applied as urea, nitrate or ammonium-N. Sugarcane yields at 14 months after planting were not affected by fertilizer form or soil type. With urea or ammonium-N, placement 10 cm deep increased yields by 28% but with nitrate it decreased yield by 5%.
